　　 Interrupting, not intruding? 有意思，虽然两个字差不多，但我更喜欢她用的字，“coming between” something rather than “walk in on” something. 就好像她理所当然地认为她在打扰我和我自己的时间。

　　 “No, no, come on in, I can handle talking both you and myself at the same time.”

　　我邀请她不光是出于礼貌，而是她看出了我其他朋友都难以理解的分别。我站起身，让座给她，我走到另一边又拉来把椅子坐下。

　　 “Had a hard time at the bar? I know my friends can be a little too flirty sometimes”我问。

　　 “It is quite all right, I am having a good time. It was nice of Vero to invite me.”

　　 “That’s Vero.”我轻轻叹了口气。Samantha显然听到了我的叹息，又抬起她漂亮的下颏看着我，读心术专家又来了。我连忙打断她说，“You and your cousin seem close.”

　　 “Yeah, he’s all of sixteen, and I was a year younger when he was born. With the age difference, it is kinda crazy, I realize.”她摇头笑了一下。

　　 “No，it’s not. ”我马上说。

　　她有点不相信地看着我，但很感激地说，“You are the only one outside my family who doesn’t think so.”

　　 “Well, I have a brother who just turned 16 too. “她惊讶地看着我，我点头笑着说“yeah, believe it, it is true. So, do you see him often?”

　　 “He used to come from Portland for a few weeks each summer, but he’s living with me right now.” 轮到我惊讶地抬头了。“Family dynamics and teenage issues, nothing too abnormal. He needed a willing family member who gives him the benefit of the doubt. This past semester went well, so we’re taking a look at how the summer goes to see where he’ll end up next year.”

　　我不敢想象有个十几岁的孩子在家里是什么状况，我是绝对不敢让Jake，我小弟弟，来的，就算是Doug我大弟弟，我猜我连一晚也照顾不来。我用手托起下巴，向前探了下身很钦佩地说，“He’s lucky to have you.”

　　 “What a nice thing to say, Cathy, thank you.”

　　我还想继续问下去，可Vero的声音从门口传了进来。“Get your antisocial ass back out here, C.J. Oh, Samantha, I am sorry, I didn’t know you were here, too.”她看到我不是一个人，脚步停在厨房门口。

　　她从Samantha看向我，眼里出现那种让我立刻坐直身体听候命令的神情。“Listen，C.J. We used the game launch as an excuse to fly everyone here, but you know they all come here to see you, so, don’t hide here too long. Plus, you know you are my saving grace at these social things, hon. So， please, sometime soon?”

　　轻笑了一声，我点头，目送着Vero回到前面。我们都不是很喜欢应酬，但每次不得不参加时，我们会相互支持帮助对方熬到最后。

　　回头时我看到Samantha好奇地盯着我，“She’s pretty fantastic.”她说。

　　 “Definitely.”

　　 “She introduced me to her husband, Don, he looks like a pretty nice guy, too.” 我很由衷地点头，这是每个人对Don的印象。她接着说“They seem like a great couple.”

　　 “Definitely.” 我同意得有点太快太急，好像要马上扶起我不小心碰倒一杯水。

　　紧接着我意识到我在和一个经验丰富的FBI探员谈话，我这反射性的反应会不会让她感觉我在隐藏什么？

　　从椅子上站了起来，Samantha向前探身看着我，就像看一个多年的老朋友一样，“Well，that Vero, “她停顿了一下，又向前靠近我， “I can see how someone might fall for her.”她说“someone”时的口气并不像是指Don。

　　震惊！我吃惊得张开口，却不知说什么。我想我当时的表情一定很白痴。因为当她用两根手指托住我的下巴帮我把嘴合上时，我完全没有任何反应。她的手指停留在我下巴上大约两秒钟。没有再说一句话，转身走出了厨房。

　　 Perfect! Now people I barely know are giving me advice on my love life!

　　没有比在Downtown找到免费停车更开心的事了，当然，因为你开的是全美国最小的车子，只要街旁的任何两辆车没有在接吻，你都是可以挤进去的。
